     It's been raining out and about, so I've been hiding so as not to melt. In this vein, here are some puffy clouds, laden with rain...

Easing Up

     It's not quite so cold this morning as it has been. In fact its warm enough for the little toads that live under my workshop (generally it's an office but in December it's a workshop) have awoken to sing and eat bugs. You have to take opportunities like that, because there's quite a bit of winter left.

     The sun certainly is taking the opportunity. From the very first it showed that it was of a fiery temperament today. May we all be like toads and suns today!

The Next Day

     I had a very nice Christmas.

Proper Scene

     Why do people dream of a "White Christmas?" (I'm talkin' to you Bing.) The greater majority of the world will have zero snow at this time of year.

     Here so far all we're getting are frosts that whither quickly in the sun.

     And that's the way it should be. Wishing for different weather is silly. Just enjoy what you get when you get it. Explore the nuance and whatnot. Or don't.

     Hope you're all prepared for the weekend, whatever you may have in store. It's coming fast!

Colour-Full

     Most days it's a struggle for me to find a photo that I like enough to want to share. This morning, I was lucky. It was a very colorful dawn on this, the second shortest day of the year.

     Sometimes the colors are pretty much unreal.

     Can you see the moon?

     This is about as far south as the sunrise is going to get. Tomorrow will be a bit further, I suppose. Maybe I'll take a picture of that too!
     Sometimes a photographer just gets lucky. I took all of these pictures while I was feeding the steers this morning. (right after, actually) With photography, as with life in general, it pays to keep ones eyes open. Have a great Wed-nes-day!

Lines & Colors

     That's what this photography thing is all about, right? Lines and colors? I don't know, I just take a picture when my fancy is stricken. But here's some lines to ponder...

What Inversion?

     A benevolent wind has removed our inversion, which is good (I suppose...) if you have respiratory problems. Me, I'm gonna live in the past. Here's a couple of pictures I took this weekend.

     Ah, clouds. What would I do without you? Enjoy the sunshine today!

Hazy Dayz

     We've got a bit of inversion going on here. For those of you who may not be locals, inversion means when a high pressure system acts like a lid on our little bowl of a valley. The inversion keeps any particulate in the air from floating away so it gets pretty hazy. Air quality can get pretty poor, but it makes for some great sunrises and sunsets.

     I do like orange, though. This is a large picture if you click it. I urge you to do so, as there are some details that are difficult to see at this size. Have great weekend, all!

Rise And Shine

     Unless you're a gopher, chances are you have to get up this morning. My condolences. As a small benefit to getting up early, though, are some beautiful sunrises. Behold!

Fluff And Stuff

     For a person of a sleepy disposition, this could look quite inviting. Nice and comfy. But I imagine that it's actually quite cold up there. Actually I think I might have it upside-down, now that I look at it. Maybe not. With the sun behind them, these clouds glow.

Bummin'

     I spent the weekend away from home. I had a lovely time, but after a bout of eating the wrong thing-itis I wasn't really in a position to take pictures. So here is the view from my yard this morning. It's a bit hazy out, just so you know...

     Not a bad view, though it could be a bit clearer. Oh well.

Infinite Scorn

     There's an ancient proverb: Give a hoot, don't be a brain-dead jerk! (Or something to that effect.)

     I'm feeling quite intrigued by just shape this week. So sticking with that pattern I started on Tuesday, here's another backlit photo.

Less Is More (Maybe?)

     I've only really got one picture today that I want to share. It's been somewhat slim pickings lately. But maybe quality over quantity, yes?

     It's black-and-white (as you can see) which is classy. It's also a full resolution picture so you can see all the wonderful intricacies in the branches. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Monday The Fifth

      There's been some cold mornings out there recently. I have braved them, just for you loyal readers, in order to bring you some lovely pictures! As follows:

     A good variety today, I think. The extra time over the weekend makes it much easier to get a good variety. I think they speak for themselves today, which is nice.

Stolen Thunder

     So I have this fabulous sunset picture, but somebody (she knows who she is) totally stole my thunder. But, just in case somebody comes along who isn't in the same facebook circle as I am, here it is:

Critters

     I like taking pictures of animals. It can be a bit tricky with my camera, though.

     Getting pictures of cattle isn't a difficult task. Getting them to stop staring at you and actually do something, can be a bit trickier. These bulls are just playing.

     Sometimes you just come across some animals by chance. These geese didn't want to give up the road and the gander (on the left) acted as if he was going to attack my car.

     Two things I like to photograph! An old building, and an animal. (See the kitty?)

     This Great Pyrenees was supposed to be fulfilling the role they were originally bred for. He found the sniffables far too interesting to keep up with the sheep, though.

     I'm not sure what kind of duck this is. (maybe an unusual colored Scaup...) At any rate, it seems odd for her (him?) to be all alone at this time of year. Maybe this is a good hiding spot, as it is hunting season. Don't worry, little duck, your secret is safe with me.

     Without a big 'ol telescopic lens it can be tricky to take pictures of animals. The generally don't like things that focus on them for too long. It's a pretty good survival technique. Still, they're one of my favorite photography subjects.
    

Hazy

     It's a very hazy morning here, but that makes for some amazing sunrises.

Monday The Twenty-Eighth

     There's been a lot of good autumn light these past few days. I think I got a couple of pictures that show it...

     I do love a good sunrise. (And things that look good when I put them between said sunrise and my camera.)

     Apple Orchard. They're always beautiful.

     Where am I? Do you see a clue? Seriously, though, I generally don't like it when the sky is just white as it usually washes out any details. But sometimes it leaves you with a great skyline.

     So what do you all think? I think they're pretty good and I'm looking forward to sharing more. Toodle-oo!

Panorama

     Some dark clouds are just pulling out this morning. And while they're only making way for lighter clouds, it's still one step closer to clear skies.

     To the east things are looking brighter, and the nice diffused light makes for good picture taking.

On Foot, On Monday

     This morning I decided to take my pictures on foot. A person doesn't necessarily have to travel far to get pictures.

     While it would seem that there's not much going on this morning, that would be just the people front. Still as a whole, I like pictures of big empty places.

     This little guy was hanging out under the ledge of a concrete ditch that had washed out. I wonder why he wasn't in a real burrow.

     Here you go: Still life. Ponds are art gold, but this is just a little sediment pond. If only I could paint.

     And to finish, as sunset. (A good way to finish.) Actually the sun has already set and this is more a picture of bright pink clouds. Pretty, yes?

     You'll all be very happy (I'm certain) to hear, that I'm pretty much all healed up so I'll be able to be out and about to take pictures. More tomorrow, so I'll see you then.

Out And About

     I felt well enough to make a picture run this morning. Needless to say, I survived.

     The sun poked through the clouds for a couple hours this morning. I even got to be in it once or twice.

     These dim days inspire some of the sneakier predators to come out during the day. This poor coyote lost the crow it was stalking when I stopped to take a picture. Personally, though, I think she was being pretty hopeful...

     This is the spot to be, if you're a hawk. Nearly every time I pass this thing it's got some sort of raptor on it. Today though, there were two! They must be family. (They're Red-Tailed Hawks.)

     These three had to head home when the boss went somewhere that cow-dogs aren't allowed. The dark one on the left got in a pickup when they arrived home in hopes that maybe the next time she wouldn't be left behind.

     I was fortunate to catch the lighting conditions that I did. Now it is snowing, though it's not cold enough for them to last once they touch the ground. It would appear that I'm kicking this thing. That means more new pictures. I hope you're as excited about that as I am. See you later.
